Community Service for the Common Good

UMN Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Pledge Drive

Spring semester 2014

  • Kickoff: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 20
  • Continues through Friday, May 16

Take the Pledge!

Inspired by the national MLK Day of Service, the University of Minnesota MLK Community Service Pledge Drive honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy of service and the University’s mission of public engagement for the common good. The drive aims to promote opportunities throughout the calendar year for faculty, staff, students and retirees to work with neighbors to serve our communities.

In addition to bringing people together to address critical community needs, community service strengthens the University’s commitment to a public engagement agenda as a way of advancing outstanding scholarship, preparing educated and engaged citizens, and strengthening democratic values and civic responsibility. Each year, the community service that members of the University family provide produce notable benefits to communities across the city, state, nation, and globe.
